Joe Cleary - Accompanist/Arranger

Joe has played piano since a child. After lessons in the late 1950’s he began playing the pop music of the 1960’s. In the 1970’s he played for annual pantomimes at work, which were performed for children of the staff. In the 1980’s he moved on to  play for BATS (Brantham Amateur Theatrical Society) and in 1990’s for The Debenham Players.

Also in the 1990’s he worked with The Appeal Theatre Company and moved in 1998 to accompany Ipswich Operatic & Dramatic Society (IODS). At IODS he met the inspirational Pat Taplin who took him on to accompany the Gallery Players’ shows. He has been Musical Director for many Gallery Shows, and has played keyboard in the orchestra pit for most of the players musical shows since 1998.

Whilst working with the Gallery Players Joe was introduced to Margaret Morphew. When the position of accompanist for The Co-op Ladies’ Choir became vacant, Margaret asked him to play for the choir, and he joined them in September 2003.

Joe has played for many shows with different local organisations. Joe also plays in the band "Horizon" which performs a show based on the story of Karen Carpenter and using dialogue and music from the Carpenters.  Joe also arranges music  for the ladies’ choir – including selections from Abba, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, West Side Story and a selection of Theme songs from Bond films
